How to Fix Fortnite Lag Spikes

Settings and Drivers

Like most new games, Fortnite can be a CPU-intensive game, so make sure the computer you're playing on at least meets the minimum system requirements. It is recommended that you have an Intel i5 graphics card with 2GB VRAM and 8GB RAM, but you may also be able to play on an Intel i3 with Intel 4000 graphics and only 4GB RAM to meet minimum requirements. A few settings changes in-game will also help increase your FPS in Fortnite. When possible, play in Fullscreen mode with a resolution that matches that of your monitor. For 3D Resolution, we recommend using the 1080p setting if you are on a high-end system and 720p if you are on a medium or low-end computer. Change the View Distance to NearTextures to MediumEffects and Post Processing settings to LowShadowsAnti-AliasingPost ProcessingVsync and Motion Blur can all be turned off to improve performance.

To get the best performance out of your graphics card, always keep your drivers up to date. You can download the latest driver update directly from AMDNvidia or Intel. Since games require so much processing-power, it's a good idea to minimize the number of background applications you have running by closing unnecessary programs from the task manager.

Network Performance

Network performance issues are often the deterrent to fix Fortnite lag spikes. While you may not be able to optimize Fortnite servers, you aren't entirely out of luck when it comes to a solution for how to lower ping in Fortnite. Firstly, make sure you are using an Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi and reduce any background bandwidth usage such as streaming, voice programs and large file downloads. You should also make sure that in the game settings menu, Matchmaking Region is set to the area closest to you. You can tell how much Fortnite is lagging by going to the game tab from the settings menu and scrolling to Matchmaking Region. Then you’ll be able to see your Fortnite ping test and server location. Ping measures connection speed to another server in milliseconds, so you want to reduce it for a better gaming experience.

Improve your network performance while playing Fortnite with Outfox, an optimized gaming network.
