How to Fix Rocket League Lag Spikes

Computer and Drivers

Rocket League requires a fairly powerful processor, so make sure the computer you're playing on at least meets the minimum system requirements. You'll need a 2.4 GHz Dual Core processor and a NVIDIA GTX 660 or better graphics card. Ideally, you'll be running with a 2.5+ GHz Quad Core processor at the heart of your PC. While the minimum RAM suggested is only 2GB, running with 6GB or more is ideal.

To get the best Rocket League performance out of your graphics card, always keep your drivers up to date. You can download the latest driver update directly from AMDNvidia or Intel. Since games require so much processing-power, it's a good idea to minimize the number of background applications you have running by closing unnecessary programs from the task manager.

Game Settings

Adjusting graphics settings is also a sure-fire way to improve performance. Playing in Fullscreen mode with resolution that is matched to your desktop is recommended to give you the most FPS possible for your computer. In the game Video Options settings, you can turn off Anti Alias, cap your FPS to match your monitor and set Render Quality and Render Detail to Performance. In the Advanced Settings section, reduce your Texture Detail and World Detailsettings to Performance in order to increase FPS. And to save even more processing power, un-check many of the advanced options such as Motion BlurWeather EffectsBloom and High Quality Shaders.

Network Performance

Network performance issues are notorious for causing Rocket League ping spikes. While you may not be able to optimize the game servers, you aren't entirely out of luck when it comes to dealing with Rocket League high ping. Firstly, make sure you are using an Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi and reduce any background bandwidth usage such as streaming, voice programs and large file downloads. You should also make sure you're playing using the Recommended region when you start a match.
